Transboundary PES design for Cubango-Okavango River Basin

Anchor was tasked to assess the potential viability of a multi-layered payments for ecosystem services arrangement to address the conservation issues that threaten the Cubango-Okavango River Basin, one of the most pristine river systems on earth which includes the Okavango Delta, a World Heritage Site.  We estimated the value of ecosystem services supplied by the river basin and delta to downstream countries and international society, and we identified and estimated the costs, benefits and potential marketability of a range of interventions.  The study involved a detailed review of PES design, legislation, and stakeholders, and the development of a framework and roadmap to take the process further.
